Lots of talk of the "toughest 50k" out there or the "50k that runs like a 50 mile". Not sure what all the fuss is about cause last time I checked there weren't any 50km races with more climbing than Hardrock. Well, this should settle things:

Avalanche 50K - Silverton, Colorado - Summer 2013

So, on Friday, August 10th, we will do the first running EVER of the camelback marathon. This race is put on by a rogue group of phantom race directors - the LALAS! Race goes from 9am-3pm. You have as long as it takes for Alexander to go to school to compete the marathon. This is appx. 10 trips over and back camelback (not completely accurate, but close). Figures loosely put this at 20k of elevation gain, but then again, I can't add. Bring your own water, food, etc, and the 1 lb. bag of dried beans for the race fee.

If all goes well, another marathon will begin the following friday called the Thompson Peak (fuck you) Marathon.

Thank you, and carry on.
In the spirit of all things difficult and nearly impossible, we are proud to announce the toughest footrace on the planet, or the race across the sky, or the race that eats its young, or probably just about the stupidest thing you can dream up in the name of toughness or insanity. This is simply the toughest damn thing we could think of. This race will blow Barkley and Nolan's 14 and Wickham Park out of the water.

We are talking:
100 Miles
116,188 feet of climbing (and same amount of descent)
Course low point of 9,318 feet
Course high point of 13,066 feet
Projected course record of 72 hours
Cutoff of 144 hours
45% grade
31 round trips to the top of Kendall Mountain
Course is a combination avalanche chute / boulder scramble

This is the Avalanche 100.
Chipotle Mile - Half a burrito before each lap. You can't PUKE until you're done, or you're DQed.

Chipotle Trifecta - Starting at the PUKE headquarters, run to three different Chipotles and consume a burrito at each before leaving for the next one, ending back at HQ. No PUKEing allowed.

The Chubby Fruitarian - Complete 26.2 miles and consume 26.2 bananas.

The UDAM Zach Gingerich Memorial Run - After Zach retires, complete the UDAM wearing basketball shorts covering the knees, Lunaracers without socks, and consuming only diet coke and candy. Training must be done exclusively on a treadmill.

Chipotle burritos must be vegetarian burritos with rice and beans, fajitas veggies, minimum one salsa, guacamole, and lettuce. Bananas must weigh a minimum average of 100 grams.

We are excited to host this prestigious race series, and look forward to the steep competition it will attract!Nick Couryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08605738849455672157noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8899395278232939244.post-4250430697632145742011-01-31T22:43:00.000-08:002011-01-31T22:43:51.573-08:00Picks for Rocky RaccoonHere they are folks, if you don't like 'em, too bad!

1. Zach Gingerich. Gotta love this guy. You won't find his detailed training logs, garmin tracks, vertical miles, or calories consumed summarized in nice weekly blog posts. This guy is old school and about as scrappy as they come. He won't settle unless he's gunning down the AR at 100 miles. He'll probably retire at the end of this one, so he's got nothin' to lose baby. If you don't know what Zach looks like, check for the guy wearing knee length swim trunks.

2. Tony Krewpickaz. This guy is gonna run sub 13. Question is, will he be convinced to start with a flashlight this year?

3. Scott Jurek. Scott really deserves some respect after his 24 hour run last year. I really hope he pulls it off this weekend and comes within stabbing distance of Tony.

4. Arnstein. He says he should have started training the 3rd week of January. I sure hope that means he is on his way to a 200+ mpw taper going into race week. If he can handle a two day taper and learn to take it conservative the first 3 loops, he should be able to pull of a blazing fast time. I'm rooting for you to finish before dark Mike.

5. Heatmizer. I'd love to see a break out performance. He's got the loops down and wants his final Badwater qualifying 100 to put him over the edge. He'll run a conservative, strong and smart race. Look for sub 17 hours.

6. Hiroki. Man this guy is incredible. If he leaves his camera back in the hotel room and stashes his 12 pound Gregory sponsorship backpack at the turnaround point he should be flying around those loops.

7. Liza. She's got 14:57 tattooed on the insides of her eyelids. Can't think of a better way to shake up the ultra world than with a sub 15 hour rocky. Maybe that will help get at least ONE vote for ultrarunner of the year. Geez.

8. Connie. Machine.

Ok wish I was out there running, but honestly I can't stand the 20 hour drive over to Huntsville. Whatever.Jamilhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00178653801153919256noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8899395278232939244.post-86211514354711013002011-01-31T21:55:00.000-08:002011-01-31T21:55:48.449-08:00Mt. I am seriously interested in the possibility of doing a 50 mile organized trail run or race some time in the next few years. The trail is not yet complete, and I am attempting to get a hold of the person in charge to find its current status. From what I can tell, its supposed to be finished by 2011 or 2012.

I hope to scope out the route with fellow PUKErs some time within the year over the course of 3 days. I have seen about 2 miles of the trail and it looks sweet from just that little bit. More to follow eventually...

NickNick Couryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08605738849455672157noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8899395278232939244.post-62490293080028062992009-02-10T00:44:00.000-08:002009-02-10T00:45:21.227-08:00Posting MachineThe PUKE blog is active and is pumping out new material at such a great rate of speed I might just PUKE.Nick Couryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08605738849455672157noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8899395278232939244.post-62188557082156161982009-02-10T00:22:00.000-08:002009-02-10T00:32:26.975-08:00The PUKE slamTo complete the PUKE slam one must finish the following races between July and August of any year:

UDAM 100 mile (July 4th)
Rim2Rim2Rim on July 28th starting at sunrise and finishing by sunset
>500 miles at Douglas 6 day race (if race is not held in July, you must compete solo)
Thru-Hike the Arizona Trail continuously starting no earlier than August 1st

PUKE slammers will be presented with a commemorative shot glass with which they will celebrate by playing a game of Shots & Ladders.

Entry qualifications: You must finish Pat's Run Tempe barefoot in the same year you are wishing to compete in the slam.

Entry fee: The oldest pair of running shoes you own.Jamilhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00178653801153919256noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8899395278232939244.post-48369715387708842412009-02-09T20:09:00.000-08:002010-03-11T13:20:47.129-08:00UDAM - More InfoUDAM100 Credentials:
-Highest gains ultra (Barkley + Hardrock + DRTE + Wickham Park)
-Lowest finisher ultra (0)
-Closest name to an expletive without being one (Damn)
-100% Asphalt (100%)
-0% Flat (0%)
-No restrictions on the use of metal spikes (Spikes in yo face!)
-Least relevance to the event it commemorates (Basically zero)

Here is a preliminary course map of one loop of the course:

<a href="http://www.mapmyrun.com/run/united-states/az/tempe/928233187858">UDAM 100</a><br/><a href="http://www.mapmyrun.com/find-run/united-states/az/tempe">Find more Runs in Tempe, Arizona</a>

The entry fee for the run will be $8, and a penny will be refunded to the runner for each successfully completed lap. The first is for runners who complete the entire race. These runners will receive a pizza, a trophy, a pizza trophy, and a half gallon of Extreme Moose Tracks from Safeway. This achievement will be commemorated by a photocopy of the race logo with the appropriate distinction engraved.

In order to increase the competitive spirit of the race, runners who have never completed the 100 mile distance will be allowed to trip other competitors once they pass the furthest distance they have previously run.

The run will take place on the 4th of July so we can commemorate the suffering of those who fought for our independence and realize this is nothing like it.

Entry will be determined by the flip of a coin. It is called the UDAM, the Up and Down A Mountain ultra. It will be a loop course, consisting of laps up and down the steepest asphalt section of A mountain above ASU in Tempe, AZ. By my preliminary estimates, it will be 8 loops per mile, or 800 loops total. The elevation gain is projected at %@*# HUGE. Since there is food and medical aid every 1/8 mile, the RD will offer no sympathy for runners.

The preliminary logo is already complete. Coincidentally, this is the only known race to contain a comprehensive and detailed corse map within the logo.

More details to follow.Nick Couryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08605738849455672157noreply@blogger.com2
